Bridge7, a newly established production company, has acquired the rights for a sequel and a television adaptation of the Academy Award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire.
The rights were secured from Celador, the UK-based production company that was behind the original 2008 film.
The upcoming projects, spearheaded by Bridge7’s producer Swati Shetty and former CAA agent Grant Kessman, aim to continue the story of Jamal Malik, the protagonist from the original film.
Securing the Rights and Bridge7’s Vision
The announcement of Bridge7 acquiring the rights to both the sequel and the TV adaptation of Slumdog Millionaire was made public, highlighting the excitement surrounding the continuation of this globally beloved story.
Shetty and Kessman expressed their excitement over the project, emphasizing how Slumdog Millionaire resonated with audiences around the world.
In a statement, they noted, “Some stories stay with us long after the credits roll and ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is undoubtedly one of them.
Its narrative is universal, cutting across cultural and geographical lines and it embodies the kind of stories we love — ones that bridge entertainment with profound human experiences.”
They also praised how the original film brought together a diverse group of talents, creating a global success.
Paul Smith, the chairman of Celador International, also expressed his enthusiasm for the new partnership, saying: “I am delighted that Swati and Grant have chosen the Slumdog sequel to launch their newly formed company. Celador looks forward to working with Bridge7 as the next chapter of Jamal’s journey of discovery unfolds on the screen.”
Revisiting the Success of the Original Film
